4. Investigation
Rohini was in her
office as usual, there were no staff when she occupied her seat. This
is the right situation to investigate about who was Mr. Velkar, she
decided and move to the department of archives where all old record
are kept for further references. She sat at the computer and opened
the files on the computer. At that moment clerk managing the archives
came in. she was the oldest employee of that firm. Rohini knew that.
Rohini greeted her and the greetings were exchanged graciously by
both. The clerk asked politely, “Can I help you Madam?” Rohini
was a little hesitant about whether she should ask about this man Mr.
Velkar to this clerk or not. For a while she said nothing but it was
not possible to not say anything to the clerk since, she was the
person to be consulted on the matters of archives. Rohini told her
that she wants to know more about one, old time executive of the
company, by name Mr. Velkar. “Oh, you want to know about him”?
the clerk exclaimed. Then she was as if thinking of something quiet
for some time and then told Rohini that the records of Mr. Velkar are
in the file of Directors and Promoters. “Do you know him
personally?” Rohini enquired to that lady clerk and kept watching
her for her reaction. “Yes, Rohini I know him very well. He was a
very good gentleman. Every body in the company respected him.
Actually he was one of the first promoters along with Mr. Joshi, our
MD.
“Where is he
now?” Rohini. To this the clerk did not reply. There was eerie
silence between the ladies. Rohini was impatient to know what
happened to this Mr. Velkar but the clerk did not seem to be in a
mood to reply. Now Rohini was irritated and pushing herself on the
clerk demanded answer to that pertinent question. The clerk looked
sad. She looked to Rohini and enquired why you are interested in
that? Rohini did not want to say the truth and so she replied that
she wants to prepare a report and there she has to mention Mr. Velkar
and so she wants to know about him. The reply was not exactly
satisfactory to the senior and elderly clerk but she seemed to be
ready to reply. “You see Mr. Velkar simply vanished one day. Only
he phoned to Mr. Joshi and told him that he will not attend the
office henceforth and before Mr. Joshi ask him any explanation for
that Mr. Velkar cut the phone and that is all we know about him.
Rohini was terribly disturbed to hear this. Rohini took out the
related folder on the computer and started looking into the index and
there she saw a file named Vishwajit Vishwanath Velkar.
Now she was very
close to her enquiry. She opened the file and at that precise moment
a peon entered the room and told her that Mr. Rohit wants her
immediately for some very urgent work in his chamber. Rohini had to
leave the archives department and rushed to Rohit’s chamber. What
is it she implored to Rohit. On that he laughed and said, “Nothing,
just I wanted to share a cup of tea with you and that is all.” This
his remark irritated Rohini so much but she controlled her temper and
left the room. Rohit followed her and pleaded sorry. The office
routine had begun and Rohini did not get any time to go back to the
archives room and do other finding about this man. Vaishali was
keenly following the movements of Rohini. She had not at all liked
that this stranger has popped up in the life of her friend Rohini.
She wanted Rohit and Rohini to get together and marry. Vaishali had
asked the clerk in the archived department as to why Rohini had been
in that place where she had never been before. The lady clerk had
informed her that Rohini was wanting to know more about the CEO of
the company when this company was started. Vaishali knew that Mr.
Joshi had mentioned about Mr. Velkar at the meeting and so she felt
that it may be because her rendering was similar to that man, Rohini
wants to know about that person. she told the matter to Rohit but he
did not bother about all these things.
