That
was a call from the managing director of the company and he wanted to
discuss some urgent matters with Rohini. In the meeting, she came to
know that the problem MD was putting to her was difficult for her to
attain. She was worried and in that condition she left the meeting
assuring her bosses that she will be prepared to work on it and by
evening before end of the day she will reply. Rohini looked very much
disturbed because really she had never done homework for the type of
problem MD had put before her. While sitting in her chair and
thinking about the various aspects of the situation that had created
the problem all of a sudden she remembered Mahendra saying that he
was a CEO in an International firm. She thought it is an opportunity
to judge whether Mahendra is really a postgraduate in the subject and
she dialed for the house phone. Bell was ringing for some time and
nobody was responding. Rohini was adamant with the situation and
redialed. This time Mahendra took the phone and asked in his hoarse
voice, “Who is it, please?” “This is me, Rohini. Mahendra I
need your help can you do some favor?” “What do you mean mam, I
am always at your service. What is it?” “Well this is a different
matter I want to have your advice on some awkward situation in which
my company is fixed. Since you are a postgraduate in the subject, I
thought it might be wise to consult you. Do you hear me?” “Yes
mam, I am listening to you, please tell me the problem.” On hearing
this from him, she felt a little reassured and she explained the
situation. For a while, there was no response from the other side and
that actually disturbed Rohini. “Hey, are you listening to me,
understanding me?” “Hello, hello” she continued now afraid
that, may be Mahendra gave false information about him. There came
voice of Mahendra, “Madame, let me think on the situation, you do
not get all the probabilities quickly and to hurry for the reply may
cause new problems and so give me some time.” Then he elaborated on
the situation and asked her if that is what it is? She told him “Yes,
that is the situation. So what next?” she continued. For a while,
again, there was a small pause and now Mahendra started explaining to
her other probabilities. Gradually everything was becoming very clear
to Rohini and she got the grip of the topic. Feeling reasonably
confident and finally Mahendra actually spelled out the final
solution to the problem in details. Rohini was thrilled that this man
is really a perfectly knowledgeable person and that what he had told
about his educational status was not false but more than true. Apart
from having a perfect solution to be delivered to her bosses, she was
all the more happy because she was lucky to have him at her side. She
called on the MD and other directors who were sitting in their
meeting hall pouring over other routine problems and she was summoned
immediately. On hearing, the way she explained the issue everybody in
the hall was deeply impressed. “Rohini, you are a genius. I am
proud that you are in the company. I shall recommend for your
promotion in the next meeting. You deserve it.” Rohini was standing
there speechless her face down in tears, remembering the stranger of
yesterdays. How can I thank this man and I got him to do menial work?
What a shame. She cursed herself. The most senior director and MD,
Mr. Joshi told other directors that the way this young lady briefed,
reminded him of his old time colleague Mr. Velkar. Rohini over heard
it. Now she returned to her chamber. The meeting of the director's
board was also over and now here in the office everybody was talking
very highly about the way she managed the problem and that is too in
such a little time. Rohit came from his room and entering her
chamber, congratulated her for her remarkable expertise. “Where did
you get the solution in such a short interval? Directors were sure
you would not be able to address the problem at all, but the way you
did it! We are all very, very proud of you, Rohini.” Rohini looked
to him hiding her tears and said, “Thanks for the appreciation,
Rohit.” Remembering that she has a new situation waiting for her at
lunch break and that situation she has to handle herself, Mahendra
cannot help her in that. Rohini took a deep breathe carrying her
lunch box walked passed Rohit to get to the Lunch hall.
