“You
are post graduate in what?” she enquired hurriedly. “Did you say
labour management?” “Yes,” Mahendra. “When was it?” Rohini,
“About eight years back” Mahendra. There was absolute silence in
the room. Mahendra, as if nothing has happened, collected the empty
plates and settled to cleaning them. Rohini was speechless. But
gradually a slight but winning smile was appearing on her face. She
was thinking of what, no body could visualize. Her eyes were gleaming
happily. She was getting more than what one can imagine out of a
bargain like this. She turned to Mahendra and told him, “Mr.
Mahendra, I am also a graduate in labour management and then I did
M.B.A. just two years back and now I am CEO of my division of the
Company.” She was expecting a reply but there was no reply. She saw
him busy cleaning the dishes and other things in the kitchen. She
shouted to him, “Why don’t you say something?” on that Mahendra
just reminded her that she shall be late if she continue the talk.
“Mam, it is immaterial now to me. Now I am here and to serve you
for some time till I go away again, and that’s all”. She realizes
futility in arguing with him and moved out. “Yes we have to get
some decent clothes for you Mr. CEO, she remarked with a jerk.
Mahendra did not bother to react. He had accepted her and her
comments were always welcome to him, whatever they may be. He knew
for certain that Rohini is a well meaning lady; he had sort of
started liking her for her simplicity and kindness. Mahendra tried to
remind her about the chappals. Now Rohini was in a jovial mood. She
laughed once again and asked Mahendra, “Can I call you Mr. CEO,
just for the fun”? “Please, do not remind me of that”, He
requested her and moved out to the lobby. Enough of jokes she
realized and got herself into her room and now she was ready to rush
to her office. “Bye, Mahendra, I am first going to the Mall in the
next block and there I shall buy your pajamas and chappals and return
then I will have to rush for the office, you know how busy we CEOs
are, you may be remembering your days. Without bothering for his
reaction here the Lady was out of the apartment and in the lift.
Rohini had gone but she had forgotten to take the keys of the car.
The keys were in the pocket of Mahendra since he was driving last
evening. He had kept them on a shelf in the bathroom. Soon after she
was gone that Mahendra realized that the keys are just here. Knowing
fully well that she was already late for her work he came out just
like that in his towel and came down the lift. There she was almost
returning to the lift when he came out of the lift. “Hey, what are
you doing like this here?” She squealed at him. Mahendra did not
say anything and just went straight to the car and sat in the
driver’s seat signing her to come and sit behind. There she came
and a little annoyed at his demeanour she opened the door and sat
next to him. “What is all this?” she tried to enquire but
Mahendra was not in a mood for that. He started the car and now there
were at the Mall. “what is all this?’ she again retorted to him.
He quietly said to her “Madame, CEOs are not to be late at work and
I am just trying to help you at that. Please, go to the Mall and get
me my clothes in a jiffy and move to your office.” Rohini saw the
command in his voice and preferred to obey. She went almost running
to the Mall and rushed inside and reached the stall where pajamas
are sold. The Mall had just opened. Every body in there knew her
since she was a frequent visitor for the place. The salesman knew her
by her name and so he approached her with a smile and asked by hand
gesture, what? “Please, get me a few suits of pajamas
of good quality for home wear.” Some six pairs were shown. He
asked, “Your size?” Rohini thought for a while and suggested that
she wants pajamas
for a six foot well built man. The salesman looked to her with a
surprise but finally approving for her choice smiled to her and
quickly moved to the stands and took out a bundle full of
pajamas of
sorts. These are all big size ones and will go well with the fellow,
he commended. She had no time for loose talk, “pack them and make
the bill,” she roared at him with a smile. She ran to shoe stand
and asked for a few pairs of good quality sapaataa.
The
purchases were over and at that moment there she heard a loud sigh.
All the attendants in the Mall were looking at the entrance of the
main hall of the Mall. A tall handsome man in just towels was opening
it. The doorkeeper was a little amazed and forgot to ask him any
questions. Mahendra was moving very slowly towards Rohini. The
salesman at the pajama
stall realized at once that the purchases were for this guy. He
pointed towards Rohini and reassured to the doorkeeper. This made the
doorkeeper stop following him. Rohini was aghast, “What are you
doing here?” Where are the pajamas
please, he politely asked Rohini. The bundle of pajamas
was laid on the counter. Mahendra opened the package and took out one
suit of pajama
and went to the pajama
stall requesting the salesman to show him the dressing booth.
Mahendra was out of the dressing booth well dressed in new set of
pajama.
He really looked very handsome in that pajama
suit. Rohini could not move her eyes from this man for some time; her
breast pumped sending waves of warm feelings across her body.
Mahendra was very keen on getting her timing for the office but still
he reminded her of the shaving set. He waved to her and moved out of
the Mall barefooted with the bundle of both pajamas
and the two sets of sapaataa.
Rohini followed him. He told her to go by the car and suggested that
he preferred to walk the distance to the house. Rohini sitting in her
car was watching this stranger of yesterday walking past her. The car
roared and here she left for her office. Today she was late by
fifteen minutes. Never this had ever happened before.
