Silent Love – 4

Continues from the previous post –
Part two ends...

Sound of clinging of the pots in the kitchen has already stopped. There was silence in the house. Rohini all of a sudden realized that, where this tall man can sleep? She called, “Mahendra, where shall you sleep?” Mahendra peeped into the living room for the first time through the curtain on the door. “What mam, I shall sleep in the lobby outside, I am used to sleeping on floors.” he replied politely. “Well, Mahendra you can sleep on any one of these box beds, OK”. She almost ordered to him and that means Mahendra shall sleep on the box bed and not on floor. Mahendra vanished behind the curtain. Rohini got out of the bed and moved to her bedroom and the door was slammed. The day was over.
The night passed quietly. Rohini got up and heard some sounds coming from the kitchen. She collected her nightgown tied the waist belt and moved out of the bedroom to see what is happening there. Mahendra was preparing for the morning tea. He was still in his Turkish towel. Back to her, unaware of her, he was busy with the preparation. Rohini went back with a winning smile on her face and took her toothbrush and started cleaning her gums. While doing, she again came back to see what the new chef is up to! And at that moment he looked back and saw her coming from the living room door. “Good morning mam.” He whispered. “What breakfast you prefer?” he enquired politely. Never looking again to her he continued his work. Rohini had finished her mouthwash and now sat comfortably in one of the chairs around the dining table. Now she was actually squatting in the chair folding both her legs putting her one hand on back of the chair and other on her thigh. She looked very much poised to give a new order for the chef. “Well, you can prepare our usual omelette and parota with steaming hot tea. Is it alright?” she finished her order and there the preparation began. “You prefer omelette of how many eggs?” the new chef queried. Pat came the reply, “three please.” And there came a sound of the front door bell. Rohini got out of her sit and walked to the door, opened it to get the daily newspaper. She collected the paper and rushed to the kitchen. She was today more interested in the breakfast than the newspaper. She browsed over it and left it on one side on the dining table. Waiting for the sumptuous breakfast, Mahendra put the dishes on the table this time he put both the plates and sat opposite to Rohini on the other side of the table. She, it looked from her expressions, seems to have liked that. Mahendra while eating the breakfast opened the newspaper and started reading it. Seeing that she casually asked Mahendra, “Mahendra, what is your educational status? I am asking just out of inquisitiveness she explained”. Without looking out of the newspaper, Mahendra whispered the reply, “You have every right to know about me. He said slowly. Actually you have accepted me as your aid purely out of mercy for me and my condition, mom.” This reply from him startled Rohini. Ohh, this is a different man talking, she exclaimed to herself. Looking to him with wide eyes, she had almost stopped eating the food. After some pause she retorted to him, “did I do anything wrong?” there was silence in the room. Mahendra replied politely, “I am sorry for the way I started but my intentions are clear”. I am a postgraduate in labour management. I was myself a CEO in an international firm but one mistake I did and am reduced to what you see me today.”
